Dhoni-model as a captain.
Well it was last year that rahul dravid stepped down from captaincy citing no reason at all for his decision esp. aftr winning the npower test series(though india lost the 1dayers). No one was ready to take the mantle, not even the "great" Tendulkar. But 1 man stood up nd was ready to take over the responsibility-m.s.dhoni. Probably he was marked by some as a raw talent at that time. But the man proved what he is made of. A guy with exceptional talent no doubt. But the thing that amazed every1 was the maturity shown by the man. Take for instance the 20-20 WC he was a calm customer throughout the tournament,u never got to see the slam bang Dhoni that we were used to but certainly what we saw was a man on a mission who was ready to curb his natural style of playing and play as what the situation demands. That was the time when India was assured that here's a man on whose shoulders Indian cricket is safe enough to be guaranteed a smooth sail.He never showed his emotions on the field, was always a thinking man but never would you see him in a perturbed state on field. Be it the decision to hand over the ball to Joginder sharma in the last over in finals or giving yuvraj singh ample oppurtunities to bat up the order, he always knew what he was doing.Thats the hallmark of a confident person. The CB series win in australia is another instance when he showed why he is considered as a rare talent. He was never intimidated by the opposition but at the same time never showed that aggressive attitude on the field(a typical ganguly style). The praveen kumar gamble worked in the finals too and certainly you can't always say that ladyluck was on his side.He always puts in a lot of thought in his decisions ,it might sometimes appear silly to others, but thats the wisdom of this man and he has always been proved right. Even in the srilanka test series he was not afraid to tell the selectors that after all he is also a "human" being and to expect him to play every match was like asking too much from him. But nevertheless the happless indians(as it proved to be in the test series) struggled to read the Mendis mystery. The great technicians, the elegant maharajas, the master players all succumbed to his mastery. But quite inexplicably as many would say a player not having a sound technique, known to be a dasher read him quite well in the onedayers-yes MSD. He counterattacked the young spinner and preferred to play him as late as possible and most importantly led his team by example. This is what made all the difference and against all odds india won the oneday series. Kudos to this Champ player.Hopefully i m not exaggerating his achievements, because in india we seem to be so emotional sometimes that we expect a lot from some1 and if he fails to live upto that then leave him downtrodden. But this man deserves every bit of this credit. Hopefully india has found an able captain in him.
